Commissioned by The Hangout Hoi An — a tattoo, piercing and barber shop — for their Mid-Autumn Full Moon Festival postcard series.
Working with owners and tattoo artists Luan Nguyen and Hoang Nguyen, we each illustrated characters from Vietnamese Mid-Autumn folktales. I designed the vintage-inspired poster borders for the set and illustrated the Lion Dance character (Múa Lân).
My postcard features the lion surrounded by festival flags, tattoo-style smoke and a starry night sky — referencing its symbolism of luck, health, prosperity, power and wisdom in Vietnamese culture.
The postcards were used as promotional material in the lead-up to and during the 2019 Mid-Autumn Festival at The Hangout.
